The Yobe Government has pledged to support Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) relocating to their communities with agricultural inputs to boost farming and promote economic rehabilitation.

Alhaji Musa Jidawa, the Executive Secretary, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), stated this on Monday in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu.

The secretary said some of the IDPs had started relocating to their communities preparatory to the farming season, noting that government would ensure that it provided them with farm inputs this cropping season.

He said “the IDPs have been displaced for two to three years and have not had the opportunity of farming, being their major preoccupation for these period; they will be supported fully for their re-engagement in agricultural production."

Jidawa said government provided rice, beans, millet and cooking oil to supplement the immediate food needs of the returnees and would ensure that they returned to their farms with adequate support.

“The state government last week distributed 300 bags of rice, 150 bags of millet and 150 bags of beans to each of the two communities of Katarko and Gujba.

“The state government, through SEMA, followed the returnee IDPs to their communities and shared the materials in company of other partners like NEMA and Red Cross.

“Government also provided 200 cartons of Indomie noodles, 50 cartons of toilet soap, 50 cartons of cooking oil and 100 pieces of blankets each to Katarko and Gujba IDPs.’’

He, therefore, assured that government was committed to the resettlement, reconstruction and rehabilitation of the IDPs. (NAN)
