Yobe state governor, Ibrahim Gaidam has been named Nigeria’s Governor of the year 2018 in Education by African Education monitor magazine.
The publisher of the Lagos based magazine, Mr. Oludaisi Adetarami told Daily Trust in Akure, the Ondo state capital on Wednesday that Governor Gaidam’s choice from among other state governors in Nigeria was based on the resources he made available to fund the education sector in Yobe state.
According to him, the governor’s passion for the development of the sector has been impressive adding that he has encouraged a lot of parents to give their children including the girl child basic education.
Adetarami said even with the limited resources accruable to the state in comparism with other states in Nigeria, the state government has recorded impressive achievement in the sector.
These achievements, he said include construction of new schools, reconstruction of old and dilapidated primary schools across the state on massive scale with the provision of needed infrastructural materials to make teachers function effectively as well as sustenance of free tuition in schools.
Also he was said to have recruited new teachers to teach in rural areas.
The award ceremony, he said will hold in Damaturu, Yobe state.
