No fewer than 22 communities in Yobe State have benefited from electricity supply through projects executed by the state Rural Electrification Board in less than nine months.
The General Manager of REB, Engr Umara Mustapha Goniri, disclosed this today while briefing journalists at one of the project sites in Sunsumma village of Damaturu.
Goniri said that all the projects cost over N1.5 billion disbursed by Buni administration from May 2019 to date.
He said that the governor had, since the inception his administration, sustained constant electricity supply to all the public hospitals in the state for efficiency in health care delivery.
The projects already completed are the electrification of Sumsumma village, Northern part of Waziri Ibrahim Estate Damaturu, re-electrification of Shagari Estate and some parts of Pawari ward, Damaturu and Dikumari town.
Others are reactivation of Bayamari-Yunusari 33KV line installation, electrification of Ali Marami extension, Kasaisa viilage, electrification of Gashua road, three bedroom estate extension, and Abbari/Unguwan Karo to Sani Daura estate.
Other projects are the Government Science and Technical Colleges at Geidam, Jajimaji, Nguru, Potiskum, Gashu’a and Government Girls Secondary School Ngelzerma.
More to the foregoing are provision and installation of 500KVA Generator and Transformer substation to Yobe Woven sack Company, electrification of Koriyel, Shekau, Garga and Churokusko towns in Tarmuwa Local Government among others.
Goniri added that the progress made on power supply in respect to Gujba and Gulani was abruptly shattered by the activities of the insurgents.
“With a view to restore power supply after people have returned to their communities, the state government had carried out reconstruction of Town Distribution Networks of Gujba, Buni-Yadi, through Rural Electrification Board and have since been completed”, Goniri said.
Lamido Adamu, one of the residents in Sumsumma village, applauded the Yobe State Government for the gesture, and appealed for road construction from Damaturu, the state capital, to their village.
