Being a celebrity puts one in the limelight of glamour, but the fame also comes with its numerous challenges. Some stars have decided to hire private security for protection due to the fancy lifestyle they lead.
However, many of these prominent individuals, most especially Nigerians, tend to let their guard down whenever they are outside the country. Some of these celebrities have shared their tragic stories of being robbed in other countries, including at gunpoint.
The latest victim Yemi Eberechi Alade, a Nigerian Afropop singer, who was robbed on November 30 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. Aside from Yemi Alade, other Nigerian celebrities who had fallen victim to robbery are:
Niniola
Niniola Apata, known professionally as Niniola, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who came into the limelight after She partook in the sixth edition of Project Fame West Africa in 2013. In 2018, Niniola was robbed at a popular restaurant in South Africa.

Media Personality Toke Makinwa robbed in London
The Nigerian “Amapiano” was having dinner with two other friends when he was attacked by robbers at McDonald’s restaurant.
According to reports, Niniola’s bag and cell phone were collected while two of her friend’s jewelry and cash were carted away.
Erica Nlewedim
Ngozi Erica Nlewedim is a Nigerian actress, model, and entrepreneur who came into the spotlight after she appeared on Big Brother Naija Season 5. She was later disqualified for breaking BBNaija house rules.
On July 28, 2022, Erica took to her Twitter account to reveal how she was robbed at a Zara store in the United Kingdom.
She wrote, “To the person that stole my money, you will never make that amount of money. You won’t even make 10% of it in your life till you confess and turn in yourself to the police.
“I wanted to buy a particular bag. I heard the new naira price of a dollar I said no I’ll save my cash. And I left Harrods to enter Zara after queuing to pay. It gets to my turn and my bag is empty.
“They called the police cos (because) another woman complained about the same thing and her whole bag was stolen. We’re waiting for the outcome.”
Numerous of her fans also sympathized with her after she revealed the incident.
Davido
Nigerian celebrity David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido is a music star and the son of billionaire mogul Adeleke.
In November 2015, the music star revealed how he got robbed of $55,000 and two Rolex watches in South Africa.
According to his explanation, it appeared there was a threat to his life during the robbery.
He tweeted, “Thank God for my life…. If not for Him… E for being a different story … My daughter’s face was flashing through my eyes the whole time….”

Toke Makinwa
Toke Makinwa is a Nigerian media personality and former On air presenter known for hosting The Morning Drive on Rhythm 93.7 FM and for her YouTube vlog series Toke Moments.
Makinwa, who had been in London recently for Rita Dominic’s wedding, revealed how she got robbed in London
The social media diva disclosed this tragedy on her Instagram story, where she wrote, “Just got robbed in London…. I’m speechless All my valuables are gone. Gosh how.”
Yemi Alade
Yemi Eberechi Alade, is a Nigerian Afropop singer, songwriter, actress, and activist. She became famous with her single “Johnny” in 2014.
The music star was robbed on November 30 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, where she went to perform at the Creative Africa Nexus Weekend (CANEX WKND), a three-day gathering of creatives from Africa and the Diaspora.
Alade took to her Instagram page to bemoan how thieves broke into her hotel room, looted all her belongings, and stole all the valuables they could find.
She wrote: “A few minutes after I left my room, some unknown people decided to go through my things and steal all the money they could find 🙌🙌🙌🙌 Very good.”
Damilola Adegbite
Damilola Adegbite is a Nigerian actress, model, and television personality. She featured in the soap opera Tinsel, and Flower Girl.
Damilola had recently disclosed in a recent post on Instagram that her phone and her several other valuables were stolen from her during a trip to London two weeks ago, she further revealed that after numerous attempts to get her phone back, she got a mail from Apple saying her phone was in China.
She wrote, “Got an alert from Apple. My phone has reached China before meIt is well. Just try and make the most of whatever situation you find yourself in as you aim for higher (position)!”
