Yellow fever kills 8 in Bauchi

Bauchi State government has announced that it recorded eight deaths due to the outbreak of yellow fever in Ganjuwa local government area in the state.

The Chairman of Bauchi State Primary Health Development Agency Dr Rilwanu Mohammad, told newsmen yesterday in Bauchi that the deaths were recorded last week.

“During last week’s immunization exercise, eight persons were reported death as a result of a suspected disease, but after samples were taken and tested, the results came out positive for yellow fever,” he said.

Mohammed explained that all the cases are from two wards of Ganjuwa LGA.

He said the agency had since reactivated its rapid response team, including Case Management Pillar, Surveillance and Risk Communication Pillars.

He further revealed that the federal government had programmed a preventive vaccination for 19 local government areas of the state for February 2021.

Mohammed appealed to the people to maintain personal hygiene and environmental sanitation.

It will be recalled that the state recorded 77 deaths from yellow fever last year.
