The Director of Operations of TAN Barr Benchuks Nwosu, who led a delegation of TAN executives yesterday to Anambra State to assess the offices of the organisation, made the commendation.
He noted that funds meant for the agricultural sector now used to get to the real farmers, unlike in the past when unscrupulous politicians and businessmen ‘farmers’ who were not in any way connected to farming cornered the intervention funds and other such benefits.
Nwosu disclosed that the agricultural revolution/transformation programme of the Jonathan-led administration has encouraged the youths to embrace agriculture.
Agriculture was no longer leftbfor old and uneducated people, said, adding that government has raised a generation of ‘agropreneurs’ who saw agriculture as a business.
He said that if handled properly, agriculture would provide employment for the greatest number of unemployed Nigerians, income, industrial raw materials, cash and food for the citizens.
Nwosu stated that the new approach to agriculture has repositioned the sector “to serve as an alternative to petroleum sector which is facing dwindling fortunes.”
He said that the president’s transformation and revolution in the agriculture sector was in line with the aspiration of TAN to empower over two million Nigerians in its waste-to-wealth initiative annually.
The value chain of agriculture, according to the TAN chief, has greatly improved, making agro-based industries to spring on daily basis.
