A former chairman of Gombe State Sports Commission, Malam Farouk Yarma, has won the Jewel Magazine’s Sports Personality of the Year Award.
Organisers of the Jewel Spotlight Awards 2023 which was held recently in Gombe, said the astute sports administrator emerged the winner through public voting.
According to them, he was recognised for his “dedication and commitment towards the growth and development of sports, entrepreneurship and society at large.”
Speaking on the award, Yarma who is the proprietor of Yarmalight FC Gombe, said he was humbled to be so recognised by the organisation and those who voted massively for him.
He said he was motivated by the award to do more for the development of sports in Gombe State and Nigeria at large.
The former Commissioner of Youth Empowerment in Gombe State reiterated that as a grassroots politician, he is passionate about youth emancipation through sports and entrepreneurship.
“I am humbled to have been nominated for and emerged as the winner of this prestigious award. It means a lot to me because I was chosen by the people I have served faithfully over the years.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the organisers. For acknowledging my modest contribution to sports and youth empowerment in Gombe State, they have spurred me to do more.
“Having been recharged by this award and the ones I have won before now, I am going to redouble my efforts in ensuring that the youths of Gombe State are positively engaged at all times,” said Yarma.
