A former governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, has warned against the imposition of a candidate on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the national chairmanship position.
Yari, one of the aspirants vying for the party’s top seat, spoke on Tuesday while briefing newsmen after a meeting with APC senators in the National Assembly where he sought their support.

He said anointing candidates for chairmanship and other positions was undemocratic and should be jettisoned.
He recalled that a former chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole was anointed to lead APC in 2018 but the result was chaotic and plunged the party into crisis.
He said APC national chairman and other executives should emerge through the ballot box, warning that imposition would not produce the right choice for the party.
He said, “You have also been reading in the newspapers that President Muhammadu Buhari did not anoint anybody. We are trying to break the jinx; we must come through the ballot box so that we can respect the votes of the people not by picking”.
Yari also dismissed claims of a micro-zoning formula in the party, saying he was not aware that APC had micro-zoned its chairmanship position to the North Central.
He said, “It is not about where you come from, it is about what you have done and what you can do for the party. I came here to present myself to you and solicit your support for my aspiration.”
