Alhaji Babangida Aliyu disclosed that a few individuals have already positioned themselves to wrest democracy by hijacking power, noting that they are so subtle in doing so that if Nigerians are not on the lookout, it would not spell well for the country.

Aliyu called on all politicians holding positions in the country based on the mandate of Nigerians to wake up from their slumber as he said the country is slipping fast in the hands of profiteers to the detriment of all. “If people do not pay attention, some few individuals will hijack the cause of government, but in doing so, will make everything seem normal but we must rise to fight such people so that democracy will prevail in our country”, he said.

Aliyu made the call at a reception held for retired Chief Justice of the federation, Justice Legbo Kutigi and Justice of the Federal High Court, Justice Abdullahi Mustapha, yesterday in Minna.

Speaking on the issue of respect for the constitution, Aliyu asserted that unless Nigerians, especially the political elite abide by it, the governance of the country would be reduced to an individual affair and by extension will lead to crises in the country.

He therefore asked the National Assembly members to uphold the constitution without fear or favour, maintaining that on critical issues, voice vote is not important.
