The police in Ogun State have arrested a 27-year-old internet fraudster (yahoo boy), Obeta John, for killing his girlfriend, Idowu Buhari, an HND I student of mass communication in Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade.
The police spokesman in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told newsmen that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday following a distress call received at the Ode-Remo Division that the suspect locked himself and the girlfriend up at No 3, Mojubade Compound, Eredu Ishara, and was beating her.
Oyeyemi said that before the police arrived the suspect had beaten the girl thoroughly and hit her head against the wall in the process and that all effort made to persuade him to open the door proved abortive.
He said, “Upon the distress call, the DPO of Ode-Remo, CSP Fasogbon Olayemi, led his men to the scene where they met the victim in the pool of her blood after forcing the door open.

“The victim was rushed to the State Hospital, Ishara, but was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.
“The suspect, an indigene of Enugu State, was promptly arrested and taken to custody.”
Oyeyemi said during the interrogation the suspect informed the police that he was an internet fraudster and that a certain amount of money from one of his clients was paid into the account of the girlfriend which she refused to release to him.
“He stated further that it was the argument over the said money that led to a scuffle between them which eventually led to the death of the girl.”
