The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, says the command has deployed 3,180 officers at various worship centres across the FCT during the celebration of Christmas on Monday, December 25, 2024.
Disu, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the command in Abuja, on Monday, said the officers were deployed in order to ensure the safety and security of residents during the Christmas celebration and New Year.
He said the initiative aimed to enhance visibility at places of worship, event centres and public spaces, which he said would also address potential security concerns in identifying black spots, such as uncompleted buildings, and shanties.
According to him, the key strategies areas include the deployment of police Rapid Response Squads (RRS) and Tactical Teams, which he said are to conduct stop-and-search operations as well as implementing both vehicular and foot patrols.
“And the FCT police will also collaborate with sister security agencies to strengthen public safety throughout the festive season,” he said.
He further disclosed that, Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams would conduct security sweeps of essential government and public infrastructures.
CP Disu, however, emphasised the importance of cooperation between the police, religious leaders, and owners of recreational facilities to ensure a secure environment.
The police commissioner while extending his warm Christmas wishes to the Christian community and all residents of the FCT, reassured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to their safety.
