X-raying the fantastically heartless

Way back in 1993, Lorena Bobbitt, an Ecuadorian woman married to an American, made news headlines when she cut off her husband’s private part and threw it away in a field. The severed organ made even bigger headlines when it was successfully reattached by surgeons, after the police had found it.
Mrs Bobbitt, who won the case after pleading temporary insanity, was forced to take such an extreme measure after her husband of four years had subjected her to severe sexual abuse. She crept up to him one night while he slept and simply cut off the offending organ; with a kitchen knife. She won the applause of various women groups in the US, who made a point of being at her trial to support her.
Probably inspired by Lorena Bobbitt’s success, a Nigerian woman attempted a similar feat, not too long afterwards, but was not successful. Narrating the story in his weekend TV panorama, Mr Frank Olize of NTA’s Newsline fame, humorously asked ‘What do women have against local government headquarters?’
While it is easy to say what battered and abused women have against this particular region of their men’s anatomy, no one can comprehend what offence the 23-day-old private part of a baby boy has committed. This is why the story of Bara’atu Muhammad of Dafe village in Niger State is the second fantastically heartless tale of evil I heard in recent times. What kind of jealousy will make anyone mutilate a living, less than a month old child? In any case the 17 -year -old Bara’atu has been in little Buhari’s family home for only four months, how can she justify this attack on him on the grounds of being jealous of his mother?
If she had been there longer, she could say she had been childless for long and couldn’t bear the thought of someone else bearing the child she craves. But the satanic bride  was only married four months earlier. Even her excuse that her co-wife had a habit of insulting her when the husband was out cannot justify the evil she committed. This premeditated assault on an innocent soul is the height of cruelty and must  be treated as such.
Bara’atu had the option of reporting Buhari’s mother to their husband and if he failed to act then to his elders, until someone took the right step to stop her mental torture. But for her to pick up a three weeks old baby and take him to a bathroom to cut off his genitals,  means the little boy was her target, period.
Now she has left the boy not only in great pain, but unable to lead a normal life too, if ever he survives this incident. This is a boy for whom even the natural function of urinating will be a great challenge when he grows up. How will this boy ever be repaid for what he lost?
Amazingly this inhuman attack on little Buhari came just a month after the horrific assault on another infant, this time 20-month Musa Murtala of Kano.
We were all shocked when the photos of battered Musa made the rounds on social media before newspapers published it to corroborate the story. It seemed so hard to believe that a 20 month old child can be the object of so much hatred. How can two stepmothers unite on a single mission of openly mutilating a living child? These devils-in-women’s-skin went ahead to cut off Musa’s tongue, blind him in one eye as well as break his arms and legs. How can any woman do this to a child? Unless the intention was to kill Musa, nothing else can explain this horrendous attack on a child.
These two groups of evil stepmums obviously stand for everything that negates womanhood. Being a female is all about love, kindness and compassion. It is about standing up for and protecting a child no matter who its mother is. It is about never harming a child no matter what his offence is, due to an understanding that the child is only being offensive because he or she didn’t know better.
Therefore, since these three women have thrown all their natural, feminine instincts away in order to visit untold and premeditated hardship on two innocent little boys, they must be visited with the full wrath of the law. All three must be made to serve long and hard prison terms to give them a taste of their evil. Only this will give them a dose of their own medicine, as well as deter other aspiring evil geniuses who might want to try similar fantastically heartless enterprise.
