The National Universities Commission (NUC) will grant the Federal University of Wukari, Taraba State, permission to start a faculty of Medicine before the end of this year.

Executive Secretary of the commission, Professor Abubakar Abdulrasheed, disclosed this in Wukari shortly after commissioning buildings and facilities in the university on Tuesday.

Professor Abdulrasheed, who expressed satisfaction with the facilities provided by TETFUND in the university, said a team of technical experts from the NUC would soon visit the institution to inspect facilities on ground.

According to the NUC boss, the vice chancellor of the university, Prof Abubakar Musa Kundiri, had presented a request to the commission seeking approval to start medicine courses in the university.

He said the request for approval presented to the commission by the vice chancellor would be granted before the end of the year.

“I’m impressed with your performance as vice chancellor and your commitment and zeal will surely make Federal University Wukari one of the best among new federal universities in the country,” he said.

Earlier, Prof Kundiri commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving funds with which all the projects and facilities were provided in the institution and also expressed appreciation to the Executive secretary of NUC and the TETFUND for supporting academic growth of the institution.
