Commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as ‘Achaba’, and KEKE NAPEP operators have called on Bauchi State government to     build more public toilets in parts of the state in order to stop open defaecation.

Chairman Bauchi state KEKE NAPEP Operators Association Malam Ma’aruf Nuhu made the call in Bauchi  Monday at a workshop organized by a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Development Exchange Centre (DEC).

The workshop was organised for KEKE and Achaba riders as part of activities marking the 2018 World Toilet Day.

He lamented that, many of Achaba and their KEKE NAPEP counterparts as well as their passengers resort to open defaecation by roads sides or bushes due to lack of adequate public toilets.

Speaking earlier, the DEC Executive Director, Mrs Titi Yakubu explained that the workshop was aimed at enlightening commercial motorcyclists and tricyclists on the dangers of open defaecation as it is rampant among them.

She disclosed that,18th November every year was designated by the United Nations as World toilet day to highlight the dangers of open defaecation which include outbreaks of Diarrhoea, Typhoid and other diseases as well as constitutes an environmental nuisance.

Mrs Titi explained that DEC works in the areas of health, hygiene, girl child education and women empowerment through provision of loans to small scale business women.‎
