Kano State government has revealed the plan to establish an eye clinic in each of the headquarters of all the 44 local government areas (LGAs) across the state.
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje spoke about the plan during the closing ceremony of the World Sight Day which took place at Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.
He said the establishment of the clinics was part of the efforts of his administration to strengthen institutions and staffing in order to further support the health sector.
“We intend to establish eye clinics at the headquarters of all the 44 local governments which is not enough. We will continue to work very hard in this sector,” he said.
After commenting on the religious imperative in personal hygiene, Ganduje also advised people to always take advice from health experts.
Every second Thursday of October each year is set aside as World Sight Day, and Governor Ganduje had earlier declared the day open at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, in Kano Emirate, where 4,306 people were treated.
The event took place across all the five emirates and in selected local government areas in the state.
