Former Manchester United defender, Patrice Evra, has tipped Nigeria to scale through in the FIFA World Cup playoff against their achy-rival Ghana.
The Super Eagles will take on Black Stars of Ghana today in Abuja, in the return leg of the playoff which ended in a goalless draw in Ghana on Friday.
Evra, who is on a visit to Nigeria, expressed his support for the Super Eagles during an interview with Arise TV on Tuesday morning.
He said, “To answer your question about Nigeria and Ghana, I am for both. But Nigeria, I remember when I was a kid and people were playing video game, (I watched) J.J. Okocha, Kanu (Nnwako) and Rashidi Yekini. I am more like old school so Nigeria is always the most exciting African team.
“That is why the new generation (of players) have big responsibility because we want Super Eagles to be back to where they belong. So my prayer is for Ghana, but common Nigeria!” The ex-France player hailed, bursting into laughter.
Evra, who said he hated predicting winners, urged Nigerians to fully support the Super Eagles at home.
“It was a tough first leg but Nigeria playing at home, that is where they need all your support, all love and I think Nigeria can do something,” he added.
Earlier, the former Juventus player said he was in Nigeria to discover untapped talents among young people and see how he can partner civil society groups in the fight against mental health, violence against children and gender inequality.
