The Nigeria Women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have qualified for the quarter-final stage of the ongoing FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Spain after beating Greece Wednesday evening.
D’Tigress edged their European opponents 57-56 after a nervy encounter at the Santa Cruz court in Tenerife.
Coach Otis Hughley tutored team was tied 15-15 with Greek at the end of the first quarter.
However, they got better in the second quarter as they established a five-point going into halftime; winning 16-11.
The third quarter got better for Nigeria as they further increased their lead with their 17-11 win.
However, in the final quarter, Greek clawed back into the game; leading as much as 10-3 in the decisive final quarter.
Even though D’Tigress lost the final quarter 9-19, they held on to finish overall at 57-56.
Nigeria will now face the United States of America in the quarter-final.
