World Bank sets 5m USD to address Erosion, Flood in Katsina

The World Bank (WB) has earmarked 5m USD equivalent to N1.8b  for immediate execution of 105 run-off Water Management projects in Katsina State, the Task Team Leader of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), Dr. Amos Abu announced at the launch of the project in Katsina.
Abu said NEWMAP is being executed in 20 states of the federation but the commitment of the Katsina state towards the project is equal to none.
He said the world Bank project entails sinking counterpart funding which enables the participating states draw funds for addressing erosion and flood related challenges
In his remarks, the state Governor Aminu Masari said his administration has received over 3,000 requests from communities for the control of flood, erosion and related issues and using the limited available resources and amidst competing demands, we have to date expended well over N6 Billion in addressing environmental challenges across the state.
“These results are evident in 118 flood and erosion control projects benefiting sites in over 150 communities across the nook and crannies of the State” he added.
