World Bank, FG to tackle erosion menace in Kogi

The Federal Government, in collaboration with the World Bank and the Kogi State Government, has started moves to tackle erosion menace in Kogi State through the implementation of Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP).
Kogi is amongst the 27 states earmarked to benefit from the World Bank’s eight years  Strategic Investment Loan (SIL) of $508.59 million meant to ameliorate the effect of environmental degradation in the affected states.
Addressing the representatives of the World Bank and the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project yesterday in Lokoja, Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello lauded the initiative.
Earlier, the Kogi state project co-ordinator of NEWMAP,  Barrister  Ladi Ahmed Jato stated that the  project started in 2013 by the federal government in collaboration with world bank with state government paying  counterpart funding.
