Work resumes at Kano free trade zone after 20 years neglect

The Nigerian Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) has said that construction activities have resumed at the Kano Free Trade Zone which was neglected for over 20 years as part of the Federal Government’s attempt to revive free trade zones across the country.

This was disclosed by NEPZA General Manager, Business Development, Mr. Terhemba Nongo, during the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment visit to the site.

Mr. Nongo said the neglected project had bounced back to life with structural development going on, and that some of the projects had reached 50 per cent completion.

He attributed the delay in completion of some of the projects to unfavourable weather, especially during the last rainy season.

He assured that the zone would be declared open by President Muhammadu Buhari early in 2019.
