The National Council of Women Societies has called on government at all levels to make laws against female genital mutilation in all communities in Nigeria.
Its president, Gloria Shoda, in a statement yesterday to mark the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation 2020, said: “The World Health Organisation said Nigeria has the highest prevalence rate of female genital mutilation in the world, with about 40 million women said to have undergone the practice in the country, thus indicating about 41 per cent prevalence.”
