Woman remanded for engaging 2 girls in prostitution

Five policemen who forcibly collected N3 million from a man last week are to be prosecuted.

The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of Zone 6, Calabar, Cross River State, Jonathan Towuru, who disclosed this in a statement dated July 2, 2024, and signed by SP Nelson Okpabi, said the disciplinary would deter others from such criminality.

Findings revealed that the officers who are attached to the zone were alleged to have committed the crime while on patrol on the Ikom-Calabar highway.

The statement reads in part: “Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar, frowns at the unprofessional conduct of the policemen alleged to have abducted and fraudulently extorted N3,000,000 from an individual last week.

“The AIG has ordered a high-powered investigation into the matter to uncover the facts behind the allegation for an informed disciplinary measure to be taken.

“The zone will not tolerate any criminality among officers that are saddled with the responsibility of crime prevention and order maintenance.”
