An Ekiti State magistrates’ court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has remanded a housewife, Olasunkanmi Olowoyeye (28), and her alleged lover, Adejoke Adegbite (22), for allegedly killing her husband, Matthew Akinsulie, with a thunderbolt.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sadiq Adeniyi, told the court that the suspects on June 26, 2023, at the Ogotun-Ekiti area of Ilawe-Ekiti conspired and murdered Akinsulie contrary to Sections 244 and 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.
Earlier, the father of the deceased in his statement to the police said, “I received a call from the deceased’s wife that my son was sick. On getting there, he complained of stomach ache, after treating him at the hospital, he was not well. He was taken to a traditionalist who diagnosed the sickness to be thunderbolt. He started treating him. On the third day, the wife called again to inform me that her husband had been slaughtered.

“After the burial, I got to know that the second defendant is the wife’s lover who placed a thunderbolt (magun) on the wife. When he didn’t die, he was slaughtered to cover up the act.”
The Magistrate, Dolapo Kay-Williams, ordered the two defendants to be remanded in prison pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
