Woman jailed for stealing pilgrim’s handbag

A Shari’a court in Kumbotso LGA of Kano State has sentenced a woman, Jamila Adamu, to three months in prison for stealing items worth over N900,000.

The prosecutor, Inspector Bashir Wada, told the court the accused sneaked into the house of one Sharif Sani Hamza who just returned from Makkah, pretending to be a housemaid, and stole items contained in a handbag worth over N900,000.

The Khadi, Munzali Idris Gwadabe, sentenced her to three months in prison or a fine of N20,000, and another two weeks without an option of fine, as well as to pay back the over N900,000, being the value of the stolen items.
