A yet-to-be identified woman was said to have dumped her newly born-girl at refuse dump site at Gwagwa, Abuja.
A resident of the area, Musa Aliyu, said the incident might have happened in the early of Saturday.
He said one of his neighbours who went to dump refuse at the site in Unguwar Mai Rake saw the infant.
He said the day-old baby was wrapped in a black polythene bag, adding that the woman raised an alarm when she heard the cry of the baby.
“When she heard the baby crying, she moved closer and discovered that it was a baby girl,” he said. “She ran back to inform some neighbours and later went to inform the police."
He said three police personnel, two men and a woman, came and took away the baby to a motherless babies’ home in the area.
Another resident of the area, Gabriel, confided in our reporter that a similar incident happened a month ago at the neighbouring Karmo village, when a new born baby boy was found at a refuse dump.
Efforts to get the reaction of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Karmo Police Division were not successful, but a police officer who preferred anonymity confirmed the incident, saying that police were investigating the incident to identify the woman.
