Woman, child travelling to granny’s burial die in Abuja auto crash

A woman identified as Mrs Omoniyi Rebecca and her four-year-old child travelling to attend her mother’s burial in the East have died in a motor accident near Kwaita Bridge, along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.

A survivor of the accident, identified only as Adelabu, said the accident occurred around 6:20pm when the Mercedes Benz car with registration number SUL 992 AA they were travelling in suddenly veered off and crashed into a ditch.

He said he, the dead woman and two of her children were travelling from Suleja, Niger State, to Ibadan, Oyo State, to attend the deceased woman’s mother’s burial, Modupe Eunice Oriade, when the accident happened.

He said the dead woman was his friend’s wife and he decided to join her to attend the burial in Ibadan.

Our reporter, who arrived at the scene shortly after the accident, saw the woman’s corpse and that of her child lying by the roadside, with FRSC officials trying to evacuate the corpses.

When contacted, the FCT sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Samuel Org Ochi, confirmed the accident, saying the woman’s corpse and her child’s had been deposited at Kwali general hospital morgue.

He said the driver of the Mercedes Benz sustained injury and was taken to the same hospital for treatment.
