He said the owner of the maize raised an alarm after she discovered that half a bag of the maize that was offloaded was missing.

He said, “The alarm raised by the woman attracted the attention of some traders in the market. One of the shop owners there told the owner that a woman dropped half a bag of maize in his shop.”

He said the woman rushed to the shop and discovered that the suspect had hidden the maize at the shop.

“Before you know what was happening, some wheelbarrow pushers started assaulting the woman, who had earlier denied carrying the maize,” he said.

He said it took the intervention of traders and vigilantes at the market to rescue the woman from the mob.

Police in the area said the incident was not reported at the station.
