A 50-year-old woman, Omotayo Bosede, was yesterday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged maltreatment.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 11, 2019 at about 12 noon in Ikere-Ekiti.
Inspector Akinwale alleged that the defendant, who was said to be a guardian, failed to perform her duty by providing necessity of life for a 12-year-old boy, Balogun Olakunle and a 10-year-old girl, Adenugba Opeyemi, put under her care.
Akinwale said the defendant endangered their lives by engaging them in constant hawking of vegetables without proper care.
According to Akinwale, the offences contravened section 339, 216 and 222 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses, as the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges when asked in court.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Olatunde Olayemi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that she would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until December 20, 2019 for hearing.
