A  Minna Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday sentenced a 35 year-old mother to six years in prison for stealing a four months old baby from her neighbour in Kontagora LGA of Niger State.
Magistrate Hajiya Maimuna Talatu Abubakar convicted Yuhanatu Umar on a three-count charge of kidnapping, criminal conspiracy and removal of the child from her mother.
She was said to have sold the child, who was later recovered following a tip-off from Abia State, for N300, 000 to a family now at large. Yuhanatu was earlier arraigned with three suspects over their alleged involvement in the theft.
At her ruling yesterday, the presiding magistrate described Yuhanatu as a heartless woman. She was however given an option of a N280, 000 fine.
