Farmers have been advised to ensure they use the right seeds to achieve bumper harvest.
The advice was given by Mr Kolade Dada, the Managing Director of SeedCo, a leading certified African seed company that has been in existence for 81 years marketing seed varieties developed by it.
Mr Dada while speaking at the Kaduna mega field days in Kaduna and Saminaka over the weekend said only the right seeds can guarantee bumper harvest for farmers.
He said SeedCo, which is currently in over 15 African countries, is committed towards ensuring that farmers have the right seeds to increase their yields and gains.
He said, “Our seed is specially bred for Africa and through our team of experts in research from technology to classical breeding, and our focus is to improve the livelihoods of our farmers through providing superior climate-smart varieties
“We work hand-in-hand with the certifying authority to ensure that what we deliver to the market is of the highest quality in terms of genetic and physical purity and meeting government’s standards.
“Our seed is produced locally here in Nigeria via an out-grower scheme with a network of farmers that multiply our seed under SeedCo and NASC supervision. SeedCo has had a great impact on the Nigerian market since we started here. From the seed growers to grain producers, we have seen an increase in yield and improvement in farmers’ livelihood.”
In their testimonies, both in Kaduna and Saminaka, farmers who have used the SeedCo seeds testified to having high yields.
Mr John Bala Mavisky, who confessed that he was using ordinary seeds before he later changed to SeedCo seeds has been able to purchase a brand new Toyota car from the huge profit he realised.
For Alhaji ManMan, “I started using SeedCo seeds for the past 6years and I can confess that there is no seed more than SeedCo seed, while Alhaji Ibrahim mai-doya said, he got double of what he used to get in a hectare and advised farmers to adapt SeedCo seeds for a bumper harvest.
