The maiden edition of Joseph Ikyaator Tennis Open ended over the weekend in Makurdi, the Benue State capital with the winners taking home attractive cash prizes in different categories.
In the advanced male’s singles, Peter Egena edged out hard fighting Levi Irimiya in the final to emerge champion while in the boys U-16 category, Terungwa David defeated Victor Hemba in the final to take the top prize.
Suur Iorfa pipped Mary Onoja to claim the top prize in the female event just as Gboko Club beat Makurdi Railway club to the first position in the inter club doubles.
Meanwhile, Mr Joseph Ikyaator, whose son, Orseer a USA based businessman organised the grassroots tournament in his honour, charged the participants to remain focused, resilient and committed to achieve success in life.

The Coordinator of the tournament, Vaatia Ikyaator said the championship would be sustained to harness and groom more talents in the sport.
On his part, the Chairman, Benue Tennis Association, Victor Hemba, thanked the Orseer Ikyaator Foundation for renovating the basketball court at the Railway tennis club Makurdi as well as the efforts towards uplifting tennis in Benue State.
Two participants, Ochanya Onoja and Mevi Irimiya said the tournament availed them the opportunity to showcase their talents and lauded the sponsor for putting together the competition.
Apart from teenage players, the inaugural edition attracted tennis coaches, referees, and tennis veterans from within and outside the state.
