Over 70 prizes have been awarded to winners in both Caddies and professionals category at the just concluded inaugural captain’s tournament hosted by the Tukur Yusuf Buratai (TYB) Golf Club and Country Resort in Abuja.
The tournament had four categories for men, two categories for Ladies, another category for Veterans comprising of both men and ladies as well as guests both men and ladies
Speaking to journalists, the Chairman Local Organizing Committee, Brigadier General Gakji Goshwe Shipi (Rtd) said the tournament was designed to run for five days and included different categories of players from caddies to professionals
He added that “The idea of the tournament is to break the perception that golf is an elitist sport which is why caddies and professionals and other set of players participated to ensure a level playing ground.

“Overall best winner was Timothy Mike who also got a prize of 500sq/m plot of land from SaveWell Luxury Homes, who are one of the major sponsors of the tournament,”
Earlier in his remarks, the representative of the Grand Patron of the TYB Golf Club, Lt. Gen Lamidi Adeosun (Rtd) said the tournament is designed to compete not only nationally but internationally.
“The idea is not only to improve the tournament as well as the standard of play but also bring up young ones because in Nigeria today, it’s not only academic or technical expertise that can make one succeed, but sporting activities like golfing also play a major role, which is why we want to also bring up the young ones,” he said.
