At least 4,976 households, comprising a total of 10,845 people, have been rendered homeless due to windstorms recorded across the 17 LGAs of Yobe State in the last three months.
The Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA), Dr Goje Muhammad, confirmed this to City & Crime via a WhatsApp chat.
He said between April and June, 2024, SEMA received distress calls and recorded flood incidences across over 30 communities in 12 LGAs.
Goje said based on the agency’s findings, a total of 14,082 rooms, mostly mud rooms, wall perimeters and toilets in 47 communities across Yunusari, Nguru, Nangere, Gujba, Damaturu, Fika, Bade, Bursari, Yusufari, Geidam, Machina and Karasuwa LGAs were destroyed by the disaster.

According to him, SEMA’s team and community volunteers have intensified evacuation and profiling of the victims.
He further said Governor Mai Mala Buni directed the agency to immediately support the victims.
