Wike warns contractor handling Kuje-Airport Junction Road, threatens revocation

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has warned Arab contractors handling the Kuje-Airport Road junction to take the construction work seriously or face revocation.

The minister, who stated this in Kuje on Monday while flagging off a five-kilometer rural road project in the council, warned that the slow pace of work on the road shows un-seriousness on the part of the contractor.

The minster also warned the company handling the construction of the five kilometers road to work within the specified time, warning that his administration will not entertain any excuse for failure to deliver on the set time to handover the projects.

Wike, while informing the crowd that his administration was not only concentrating on road construction, noted that in two weeks’ time, FCT Administration under his watch would flag off total rehabilitation of over 40 classrooms in schools in FCT as well as hospitals.

He, however, called for the cooperation of the locals in rooting out insecurity, underdevelopment, unemployment, poverty, hunger and other challenges.

Wike maintained that as soon as President Bola Tinubu returns to the country, his administration would send its statutory budget for the National Assembly’s approval.

The minister also thanked the National Assembly for the support received so far from the federal legislators through their committees on FCT matters.

The FCT Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud, noted that the road construction which aimed at enhancing productivity, generating employment, would also help to build local community inclusiveness to unlock the grass root potentials.

Chief Patrick Akinboye Ojo, a developer working with FCTA, said the ongoing rural road projects embarked upon by the FCT Administration is commendable.

He said, “The people of Kuje have long be waiting for this project and we are impressed and happy that the minister, out of his busy schedule, is able to come here, because we know everywhere he goes and he makes a promise and his intentions known, it will definitely come to pass and for that reason, we are waiting in anticipation to hear from the working minister.

‘’We have seen what he has done in other places, especially within the city centre, where lots of projects have been going on. So, it is now our turn in Kuje. The project will impact tremendously on the people of Kuje. From here to Gwagwalada should be less than seven minutes’ drive but the traffic congestion in this area makes it longer than that,’’ he said.
