Wike under Fire after offering millions at Burna Boy’s Concert

Nigerians have criticised Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for announcing N10 million cash gift to of the artistes that attended Burna Boy’s homecoming concert.

Daily Trust earlier reported how Wike hosted the singer in Port Harcourt on Saturday to celebrate his recent win at the 2021 Grammy Awards.

At the concert held to further honour him, the governor said the award-winning singer and other artistes that performed at the event would get the cash gift.

“All of you that have come to today, the Rivers people and the Niger Delta people that have come to perform, I am proud of you. All of you will go home with N10m each,” Wike had said.

His gesture, however, did not down well with many Nigerians who blasted him for ignoring teachers and other workers protesting unpaid salaries in the state.

Teachers in the state had recently thronged the streets to protest five-year unpaid salaries.

Below are some reactions that trailed Wike’s gesture.
