Nigerians have criticised Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for announcing N10 million cash gift to of the artistes that attended Burna Boy’s homecoming concert.
Daily Trust earlier reported how Wike hosted the singer in Port Harcourt on Saturday to celebrate his recent win at the 2021 Grammy Awards.

At the concert held to further honour him, the governor said the award-winning singer and other artistes that performed at the event would get the cash gift.
“All of you that have come to today, the Rivers people and the Niger Delta people that have come to perform, I am proud of you. All of you will go home with N10m each,” Wike had said.
His gesture, however, did not down well with many Nigerians who blasted him for ignoring teachers and other workers protesting unpaid salaries in the state.
Teachers in the state had recently thronged the streets to protest five-year unpaid salaries.
Below are some reactions that trailed Wike’s gesture.
Wike gifting 10 million Naira to Burna boy who is already a millionaire is very wrong. Now safe me that defence that he could possibly do it from his personal pocket. Fuck it! We know our politicians. If at this stage we can't call black, black then we are deceiving ourselves.

The impulse gifting by Governor Wike is so unnecessary for a state that has failed to pay gratuity & pension.

Burna Boy and the rest of the artistes will collect N10M each from Wike and celebrate it here. Next day they will tweet about lack of infrastructure and focus on Lagos State. Have they ever ask Wike about End SARS Judicial Panel of Inquiry?

Wike for President … who needs "stupid" trains and "nonsense" infrastructures when you have a "generous" Father Christmas? https://t.co/0xX8Jgt06O

Just saw a tweet where someone said that Burna Boy was cheering Wike for spending tax payers money.
Governor brought the man to town in a private jet, gave the man a landed property and you want him to object against the Governor publicly.
Una sabi lie for this app.

Same Burna who put a blood stained flag as his avi..just watch that video and see his musical refrain when Wike said nobody can challenge him in Rivers state
Told y'all these guys are using your lives to play Nairabet the other day Bovi used Nig flag to revive his dying career

So because burna boy sings against bad governance, he should reject a gift from wike?
Abeg, Make una dey think before una talk atimes

It’s not the gift that Wike gave Burna and other artistes that is making people complain, it’s the fact that there are so many workers/pensioners who are yet to be paid their salary/pension for months in the same state and he was till able to gift such huge amount

Lmao Burna boy will come on Twitter to drag politicians, he’ll call them looters and all but see the hypocrite hailing Wike after receiving N10M. Teachers are being owed 5 years salary in the same Rivers State o. pic.twitter.com/xgp7BHfIAI
