Lugbe, Abuja, is a residential district and town in Abuja. The town covers approximately 50km2 . The community is a countryside settlement expanding on the urban fringe of Abuja. The area is site to a Voice of Nigeria Transmission Station (VNT), Federal Housing Authority (FHA) Estate and the National Space Development and Research Agency.
Recently, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was reported to have given the green light for the demolition of 30 slum areas, including Garki, Jabi, and 28 others that were previously surveyed by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) before his administration took office.
Despite the proximity of FHA to Central Area under the control of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), however, the Honourable Minister must go beyond demolition of houses and direct the Monitoring and Enforcement Department of the Ministry to look into the activities of estate developers especially the ones within the popular FHA extension in Abuja.
Some most notorious developers in Lugbe axis engage in collecting large sums of money from house owners without any standard road, drainages and good sanitary system to justify large sum of money paid for plot(s) of land by house owners in the numerous estates where they managed.

The minister must also direct the Monitoring and Enforcement Department to investigate the companies responsible for road development in Lugbe from Timber market area to Police Signboard around Lugbe, and also the road going from Total Junction to Lugbe Living Faith area where there are numerous bad roads.
My plea to the honourable minister is to use his good offices and direct the relevant authorities within and under his jurisdiction to look into the road contractors and estate developers’ shoddy involvement at the new FHA in Lugbe axis as they undermine the development of the area
The FCDA authority should also be made to provide a forum through which residents must be able to seek redress within the system, to report the excesses of contractors and developers that contravene the terms and conditions regulating them.
