Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike yesterday launched a new security outfit code-named “Operation Sting” and provided 76 patrol and operational vehicles fitted with various communication gadgets.
Gunboats, armoured personnel carriers and hand-held mobile radios were also provided.
He said the outfit is fully funded by the state government with the aim of tackling criminal elements. Wike said Operation Sting is the state’s specialized and dedicated security initiative anchored on an integrated and complementary approach.
According to him, the outfit is also aimed at effectively tackling sources and drivers of insecurity in their diverse criminal manifestations and operations.
The Garrison Commander, 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Adeola Kalejaiye, said the armed forces would leave no stone unturned in ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.
