Wike displays unconstitutional powers, says lawyer

A Port Harcourt based lawyer, Barrister Orji O. Orji has said that Governor Nyesome Wike does not have the constitutional power to block the police from carrying out their lawful duty of effecting arrest of the former acting managing director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mrs Joi Nunieh.

Governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom Wike had warned that his state will not take it lightly if anything untoward happens to Nunieh in the ongoing face-off between her and the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, over alleged massive financial fraud. Arising from the governor’s statement, Nunieh phoned the governor that policemen were storming her house to arrest her even without a warrant. The governor drove to Nunieh’s house, ordered the policemen to leave the compound and drove Nunieh to the government house.

Orji, who spoke in Calabar said that the governor acted out of impulse not law.
