Wike deserves support to revamp the fortunes of FCT – PDP Chieftain

Relevant stakeholders and residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been called upon to support the administration of the Minister, Nyesom Wike to enable him turn around the fortunes of the territory.

A chieftain of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and three-time member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Teejay Yusuf, made this known to journalists in Abuja at the weekend.

He said the way the minister had set about his task under President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda necessitates full support from all Nigerians in the Federal Capital Territory to enable him succeed.

According to him, “The Senate’s directive for the FCT Minister to revisit the $460 million spent by the federal government on a CCTV project appears to coincide with some narrow attempts to mobilize a group of youth for protests in Abuja but it is glaring that the FCT Minister is actively poised to revamp the nation’s capital and attain ambitious developmental objectives laid out under President Bola Tinubu’s agenda”.

Yusuf who represented Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency of Kogi state in the House of Representatives explained that like millions of other citizens who have made Abuja their second home over the past two decades, he feels concerned enough to urge all Abuja residents and stakeholders to rally behind Wike’s efforts to restore the city’s lost glory.

He said: “In no time, Nyesom Wike has exponentially boosted the FCT’s internal revenue base, commenced major infrastructural development projects including massive road rehabilitation and reforms within the Federal Capital Development Authority and life is being breathed into long abandoned projects of all types towards serving Nigerians better.

“Commendably, the strategic Apo-Wasa road which is expected to make life easier for FCT residents by linking up new areas including Apo, Wasa district, Kuje town and the other side of Gwagwalada is now of the projects targeted for completion by May 29 next year; the project was awarded by the FCT in 2017 with a completion period of twelve months.

“The 560 feet Millennium Tower and Cultural Centre along with adjoining structures conceptualized in 2005 under the Olusegun Obasanjo-led administration, and scheduled for completion by 2011 was only 38% completed in 2017 and in 2022, Information Minister Lai Mohammed said that government was looking for $400 million private sector investment to complete it but current FCT minister, Nyesom Wike has however promised to complete the project within two years as one of the legacy projects of the Tinubu administration,” Yusuf said.

Honourable Yusuf also emphasized the significance of Wike’s non-discriminatory and people-focused leadership, citing the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission and Women Affairs Secretariat as pivotal for boosting productivity and inclusivity.
