One Yahaya Garba has appeared before a Magistrates Court 47 for allegedly beating his wife over failure to cook bean flour dumpling (Dan Wake) with pepper.
The wife, Maryam Muhamamd, reported the matter at the state police command that her husband requested her to cook bean flour dumpling, known as ‘Dan Wake’.
However, when she told him that there was no pepper to use for the food, the husband started beating her and wounded her face.
The police arraigned him before the court presided over by Hadiza Muhammad Hussaini on a two-count charge bordering on using force and violating human rights.
Counsel to the state government, Barrister Asmau Dalhatu Gwarzo, urged the court to read the charges against the defendant, as it is a new case and the court ordered the prosecutor, Auwal Abdullahi, to read the charges against him, which he pleaded not guilty.
However, the defence lawyer urged the court to admit his client on bail, the request that was granted by the court.
