Why youths should key into rubber farming – Farmers

Nigerian youths have been advised to key into farming, particularly rubber farming, instead of looking for white-collar jobs.

Mr. Noah Oladoja, Ekiti Chairman of the National Rubber Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NARPPMAN), gave the advice while speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti.

Oladoja also urged governments at all levels to invest more in rubber plantations with a view to creating jobs and developing the nation’s economy, saying that some South West states have started reaping the benefits of rubber production.

He, however, urged the government to assist rubber farmers with finance and technical support to enhance their production.

Oladoja described rubber as an elastic solid material retrieved from the latex of many tropical trees and a very valuable component of numerous products used in the daily lives of human beings, such as erasers, tyres, tubes and other industrial products.

He explained that rubber plantations required heavy and well distributed rainfall of between 200cm to 300cm, to thrive, noting that the planting season is between June and July. (NAN)
