The Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, has explained the reason for the delay in the commencement of the Port Harcourt-Aba Standard Gauge rail project.
Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during an inspection of the project, Alkali stated that the government was addressing financial issues related to the project’s award.
He clarified that the project was awarded by the previous administration, and that upon assuming office, the current administration resolved financing matters before starting the project, emphasising the importance of having all financial arrangements in place before commencing such a project.
The minister assured that once the financial aspects were sorted out, the project would commence promptly, reiterating the government’s commitment to developing rail projects across the country.
