The Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Garba, says his management team is changing the structure, design and content of the institution from the founder’s ideas to meet the current global realities.
Garba disclosed this yesterday while declaring opened, the 2018 School of Postgraduate Studies Biennial National Conference.
The vice chancellor said the late Sir Ahmadu Bello Sardauna of Sokoto would have done same.
He said: “This university has gone through removable adjustments in recent times. God Almighty was merciful to us to have been able to succeed in dislodging some things we have been doing for decades. We succeeded with the cooperation of both staff and students including those that were rigid but gradually agreed to transforming the character and landscape of the university.
“When we attempted to reconfigure the Kongo campus, people reminded us with so much emotions that it was the design of the late Premier, but the question is do we remain where we are? We remained focused and we are now seeing the results.”
He said the changes brought about the splitting of the Faculty of Science into two, dividing the Department of Business Administration into four, the establishment of the ABU Business School and the College of Health Sciences “which led to the expansion of the carrying capacity of the university and the cropping up of many postgraduate programmes.”
Garba said the changes also led to the development of new structures which allowed ABU to compete and cooperate with other universities in the world.
