A nongovernmental organization in Kano state, development Research and Project Centre (dRPC), has said that it trained 100 teachers of public schools in Kano state on transition from teaching primary pupils from Hausa to English.
The one year project according to the nongovernmental organisation was funded by the United States embassy and is titled Teachers Development for Transition (TDT) with the aim of helping the teachers to transit from teaching in Hausa to English.

Speaking at a workshop organised for some stakeholders of the project in Kano on Friday, the dRPC Technical Adviser in charge of TDT, Sulaiman Mahmud Bala, said the program has so far achieved its set objectives.
According to him, “Primary 1-3 are taught in Hausa, while primary 4-6 are taught in English. So the essence is to build the teachers capacity to be able to teach in English perfectly.
“This workshop brought together various stakeholders like Kano SUBEB, Kano State Library Board, American Corner, Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education lecturers who are directly involved in training and monitoring of the teachers while they teach.
“We are happy that when we invited these teachers for monitoring and evaluation, they were able to show us exactly that they were able to put into practice what they have learned,” Bala added.
The Technical Adviser also said the teachers were selected from 10 schools, five from rural and five from urban schools spread across the state.
Also speaking, the Secretary, Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Baffa Saleh, said the state has benefited a lot from the project, courtesy of the dRPC’s intervention and said they have seen the progress as the pupils could now read and write in both English and Hausa.
