The Comptroller General of Customs (CGCs) strike force team has announced the seizure of Chinese items and others smuggled in through the Lokoja- Abaji road.
Briefing newsmen on the development in Abuja, Coordinator of the CG’s strike force headquarters, Deputy Comptroller Kolapo Oladeji said the items were illegally imported into the country and contravenes rules and procedures.

According to him, “One of the rules of importation into Nigeria is that any item imported must be written in English language, but the goods seized were written in Chinese language and it contravenes import rules in line with Section 146 Paragraph E of SEMA 2004 CAP 45 Law of Nigeria.”
“he goods were intercepted along Abaji-Lokoja highway and it includes 4,289 cartons of Chinese drinks, 204 gallons of sauce, Spaghetti, Semovita, flour among others,” he said.
DC Oladeji added that the Strike Force team also seized 2,300 pieces of used tyres along Mokwa road in Niger state.
He said preliminary investigations are ongoing on how the goods came into the country and found their way out of the ports, adding that necessary action will be taken after the investigations.
He noted that the team had advanced its operations using technology to boost intelligence gathering while urging legitimate importers to ensure they follow relevant rules while going about their business.
