Four suspects paraded at the police headquarters in Makurdi, Benue State, on Tuesday, revealed why they killed a retired President of the Benue State Customary Court of Appeal, Mrs Margaret Igbetar.
Igbetar (72), was murdered in her home on Wantor Kwange Street in Makurdi on August 24.
The suspects, Aondohemba Joseph, Igbazenda Gbidye, Dzungwenen Ukor and Akuhwa Barnabas, are all relatives of the deceased judge.
Joseph, a 23-year-old nephew of the deceased judge and an undergraduate of political science at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), told journalists that he hatched the plan to kill his aunty over his father’s property.

He said, “I contacted my aunty’s (deceased Justice Igbeta’s)’s driver, Barnabas, to allow me access into the building in order to search for papers that will give me rights to my late father’s property.
“The papers are in the custody of my aunty who refused to hand them to me. I even reported her to my uncle, Igbazenda Gbidye, who summoned her to the village but she refused to come.
“After much persuasion, the driver agreed to watch the gate while myself and Dzungwenen Ukor, whom my uncle introduced to me as another aggrieved person with my aunty, entered the compound.
“While Ukor stabbed her twice on the chest and from behind with a knife before dragging her body to the kitchen, I used a stick to hit her.”
