Why we haven’t buried taxi driver killed by soldiers – Family

The family of the taxi driver, Abubakar Abdullahi Karafa, who was beaten to death by soldiers attached to Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a multi-security taskforce maintaining peace in Plateau, Monday explained why the corpse of the deceased is yet to be buried.

Daily Trust had on Saturday reported how the driver was allegedly beaten to death by the soldiers while returning from Mangu LGA.

On Sunday, OPSH confirmed receipt of reports of the killing of the driver by the alleged soldiers and vowed to investigate the matter and brought to book those found guilty of the offense.

The General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Ibrahim Ali, has visited the family of the deceased.

Abdullahi Karafa, a senior brother of the deceased told Daily Trust that the family was yet to bury the corpse because they had been gathering facts to challenge the matter in the court as no explanation was given as to why he was severely beaten to death.

Abdullahi added that the deceased, who left behind four children and his mother, was the breadwinner of his family.

He said he would often go out for work before he provided food for his family.

He added, “Aside from asking the reason behind the murder, we are also demanding compensation for his children.

“So, we have employed the services of lawyers who advised that the corpse should not be buried now until all necessary facts are put together.”
