Why we called El-Rufai giant in school despite his small stature – Sultan

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has recalled how the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai was called a ‘giant’ while they were in secondary school at Barewa College, Zaria.

The sultan said this while speaking at the commissioning of the Head Office of the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development on Tuesday in Kaduna.

He said, “When Nasiru was in Barewa College, he was my junior, and we used to call him giant. You can see his small stature but we used to call him giant, because we saw him as somebody who had giant ideas, who thinks beyond his size; and so when he became the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), we saw what he did in Abuja, he used very big bulldozers to demolish so much.

“When he came to Kaduna again, he did the same thing and I want to say, history will be kind to Nasiru because of what he has done to Kaduna. He has done so many, but one thing I will pick out is the beautification of the Kaduna metropolis because you cannot know where you are when you are driving on the road.

“That is one thing, I think, history will be kind to him because he did this. There are so many other things he did, good and bad, but in life you cannot be good all through. We always pray to Almighty Allah that the bad things we do should be less than the good we do because we are human.”
