Why Unijos shifted resumption date for new session

Security threat making the rounds in Jos has forced the management of the University of Jos to delay the resumption date of the new academic calendar.

The school had earlier announced the resumption of academic activities on May 3 but the security threats had forced the University to reschedule the resumption date.

Following the news of the attack on the University, the management of the institution, at its 2nd regular meeting of 2019/2020 Academic Session held on May 11, directed that all students should vacate the hostel until further notice.

An Internal Memorandum signed by the Registrar and Secretary of the Senate, Chief Monday Danjem, and sighted by Daily Trust, reads: “The University at its 2nd emergency meeting for 2019/2020 Academic Session held on Wednesday, 19, May 2021 heed to the advice of the Commissioner of police to allow the hostel remain close until further notice.

“In addition, the Senate also unanimously approved that all undergraduate lectures should be suspended until 7th June 2021.

“Only postgraduate students to continue with their lectures and other research work,” it added.

This is coming hours after the Inspector General of Police,… alerted that Boko Haram insurgents were planning to launch offensive attacks in Plateau and the FCT, calling on the police in the said areas to be on alert.
