‘Why Tinubu should pick Sadique Abubakar as running mate’

 The Friends of the Society for Good Governance, FSGG (Abokan Al’ummah) and A-Team Youths and Women Development Initiative, on Friday congratulated the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on his emergence as the presidential candidate of the ruling party.  

The national coordinator of the FSGG, Mahmood Labib, in an interview in Abuja, said the election of Tinubu by APC delegates during the party’s convention in Abuja was a testimony of his decades of building bridges of political partnership and selflessness across Nigeria.  

Expressing optimism that Tinubu would win the presidential election, Labib urged him to pick the gubernatorial candidate of the APC in Bauchi State, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retd) as his running mate.  

He said the former Chief of Air Staff had the support of the North East and also developed a positive relationship in the remaining five geopolitical zones in the country, and therefore, a potential asset and vote bank for Tinubu.  

“Asiwaju’s political movement is what we call organic growth. It is the kind of politics Nigeria needs at the moment; and his emergence as APC presidential candidate is a good omen.

“And now that he is the flag-bearer of our great party, the next most important stage is to get a formidable running mate and we strongly believe that Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar is the right man.  

“As the former Chief of Air Staff and immediate past Nigeria’s ambassador to the Republic of Chad, they would form a formidable team that would provide dividends of democracy to Nigerians.  

“We are confident that Air Marshal Sadique will bring to bear, his military experience and wide network in the security circle, as well as the successes he recorded in the last one year in the political space to help Asiwaju to victory at the polls.

“His emergence as the APC gubernatorial candidate in Bauchi, which is seen as a payback to the support he gave in tackling insurgency in the North East and security challenges in other parts of the county, is a testimony to his acceptability at the grassroots,” he said.

Labib, therefore, called on President Muhammadu Buhari, the leadership of the party and other contenders to support the emergence of Sadique as vice presidential candidate.
